Keynotes ’A new perspective on...’

During her study of West Africa’s balafon traditions, marimba player Adilia Yip sought new perspectives on her own instrument, which only debuted in 1910. On her quest, she interviewed players and took recordings that shed a unique light on this percussion instrument’s polyrhythmic world. Body language and movement play a pivotal role.

Dr Adilia Yip is a marimbist/ percussionist and artistic researcher born in Hong Kong and based in Belgium.
