Music in Dieric Bouts’ day
Ensembles Oltremontano, Cappella Pratensis & Diskantores
Music from Dieric Bouts’ day wafts along St Peter's Church's Gothic vaults and arches, ascending to heaven. Voices and instruments swell through this beautifully renovated church building, alternating polyphonic complexity with simple Gregorian chants.
Leuven’s St Peter’s Church is home to one of Dieric Bouts’ masterpieces, The Last Supper. Notes composed, sung, and played by his contemporaries – polyphonic musicians – ascend to heaven via the Gothic vaults. As voices and instruments swell through this beautifully renovated church building, polyphonic complexity alternates with simple Gregorian chants. Sound and architecture initiate a conversation that sweeps us into the past, to the time and place of Dieric Bouts’ life.
